Volunteers Needed to Work the Big E Ham Booth

FROM: Larry Krainson - W1AST:

Right now the main concern is manning the Big E Ham booth.

I've been speaking with clubs in all states and most have not yet committed to a day. Here is what is open, whether with a club or group or friends or by yourself:

  • Military Appreciation Day, Sept 16 (any Vets who are hams? This is the day for you!)
  • Maine Day, Sept 17
  • Rhode Island Day, Sept 20
  • Shift 2 (3:30-10pm) on Massachusetts Day, Sept 22
  • New Hampshire Day, Sept 23
  • Vermont Day, Sept 24
  • Shift 2 (3:30-10pm) on Sept 25
  • Sept 27
  • Sept 28
  • Sept 29
  • Sept 30
  • Oct 1
  • Oct 2

If your club is a SSC aka Special Service Club and holds classes (A SSC requirement), being a part of this booth and contributing time to man it is of benefit to your clubs. from the signups, you'll get a distribution list of people near your club location for future classes and new hams that will help your club grow.

The booth can offer a reimbursement of on Big E grounds parking fees and admission fees which could save each person $25.

Will you help your club grow?

Will you help Ham Radio in New England Grow?

Make a difference and help to man the Ham Radio Booth at the Big E.

If your club has a day in mind, contact me direct and I'll lock in a scheduled session or day for you without going through the scheduling link below:

CERT Training Program Begins September 27

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s office is accepting applications for its next Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program which begins September 27, 2022.

The CERT program is taught by emergency personnel to train residents, community organizations or workplaces in basic response skills. CERT members are then integrated into emergency response capability for their area so that if a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community’s professional response, CERT members can assist by applying the basic response and organizational skills that they learned during training.  CERT volunteers also assist at non-emergency events on Cape Cod including road races and festivals.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and pass a CORI check to be part of the program.

Training classes will be held on consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 starting September 27, 2022 until November 1, 2022 at the Falmouth Fire & Rescue Headquarters, 399 Main Street in Falmouth.  All classes are free and class size is limited to 25.

For more information and an application to be part of this program go to:

Field Day 2022 was Great!

Many hands made Field Day (FD) setup quick and easy.  We started FD setup at 0730 and were finished by about 1030.  Many thanks to all of the volunteers who helped and provided their vehicles to move equipment.  Operating from the new FARA communications trailer also made setup much easier.

We operated from 1400, Saturday through 1400 on Sunday from one SSB station.  We completed tear down of the site by 1530 on Sunday, which is very quick.  Our single phone station made 1,310 contacts on 80, 40, and 20M.  Most of the contacts were made on 20m, which was very open for most of the Field Day period.  The video below shows the level of activity on 20M on Saturday.

There were 33 people who signed in at the FD site.  Thanks to all the volunteers, everything went very smoothly.  We had a great cook out Saturday afternoon.  Henry, K1WCC, arranged the food and there were several donated food items.  Gene, KX1C served as grill-master.  Sunday morning, Jim Leavitt, KC1KM, with the assistance of Charlie, K1CB, prepared a nice sausage and egg, English muffin breakfast.   Jim, KC1KM, "Killer Mouse Electric Company". also supplied the generators for FD.

The FARA Field Day entry has been submitted.  Our claimed score is 3,570--2,620 for the contacts and 950 bonus points.  Not a bad showing for a single transmitter operation.

There is a slideshow of photos from the 2022 Field Day in the lower left of the FARA website home page.

Thanks again to all of the volunteers who made FD a success.

Join Us for Field Day at the Morse Pond School 25-26 June

Falmouth Amateur Radio Association will be conducting Field Day operations on June 25 through June 26, 2022, on the Morse Pond School field.  The Morse Pond School is located on Jones Road in Falmouth.

The public is welcome and encouraged to visit. There will be opportunities to get on the air and make contacts with amateur radio operators across the USA.

We will be operating from our new Communications Trailer, which is designed to support emergency and public service communication, and to demonstrate the wide variety of amateur radio activities.
